By now most everyone has heard the term Teacup Poodle. I'll give you a description in my own words what a Teacup Poodle is. Jimmy Bordelon

A Teacup Poodle is a very small Poodle usually weighing between 2 to 4 pounds and 8 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulders at maturity, meaning full grown. New born puppies weigh between 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 ounces depending on how many are in the litter. Generally if they only whelp 1 puppy it will be bigger. But many factors determine what size they will actually be. From our experience most of our Teacup Poodles average life expectancy is between 11 to 14 years. Some even live longer and others less. They are very lively and love to play. They draw attention by their size and playfulness. Everyone that sees one wants to hold and pet them. They also make a great lap dog especially for the elderly. The word Teacup is a name used by some breeders to describe a very small dog of any breed. Teacup is a name used to describe a certain size dog such as the name Toy, Miniature, or Standard describes a certain size dog. Teacup is not a word used by the American Kennel Club. Therefore a very small Poodle is registered as a Toy Poodle because it is 10 inches or under of height at the highest point of the shoulders. This is the standard of a Toy Poodle as describe by the American Kennel Club. For more information on the standard for showing Toy Poodles see at American Kennel Club. All Teacup Poodle are registered as "Toy Poodles".

Here at Velvet Touch Kennels we use the term Teacup, Tiny Teacup and Very Tiny Teacup to describe our small Poodles.
Our Teacup Poodle size is between 3 ½ to 4 ½ pounds.
Our Tiny Teacup Poodle size is between 2 ½ to 3 ½ pounds at maturity.
Our Very Tiny TeacupPoodle is between 1 ½ to 2 ½ pounds at maturity.
Sometimes a Teacup Poodle may go a little over 5 pounds if allowed to eat all they want and become obese.

Some breeders and owners of Poodles claim there is no such thing as a Teacup. Have you ever wondered about these Poodle breeders and owners that say there is no such thing as Teacup? If they are a breeder sooner or later they are going to have a Poodle that turns out to be less than 6 pounds which is considered by some to be the minimum weight of a Toy Poodle. What do they end up calling them? A small Toy Poodle! No such thing according to what they practice! Maybe call it a runt? No such thing! Only a 3, 4 or 5 pound Toy Poodle. Don't let them fool you, it happens! Have you ever wondered what they do with them? Give them away, sell them. It is Taboo to breed them they claim. We have our Toy Poodle today because someone bred the Miniature Poodle down in size to produce the smaller Toy Poodle. Thank goodness someone bred small Miniatures to create the Toy Poodle we now have and love.

If you want to find Teacup Poodles, look here or have a look around on the internet. Just type in the word Teacup Poodle and you will find hundreds of sites advertising them as well as Toy Poodle, Miniature Poodle and Standard Poodle. A word of Caution! Not all Teacup Poodles advertised are truly a Teacup Poodle. Some people advertise Teacup Poodle and reality is it's a runt of the litter that is produced from a Toy size. This is not a true Teacup Poodle and may be a sign of trouble. If you are thinking of getting a Teacup Poodle for a pet, there are several things you might like to know about them.
